Lewsey Park witnessed a vibrant congregation of families last week as over 40,000 attendees reveled in the spirit of Eid al-Fitr at the Inspire Eid Festival.
Hosted by Inspire FM on Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th April, the bi-annual event aimed to create an inclusive and affordable celebration for all.
Offering an array of attractions, the festival boasted 10 distinct cuisines, featuring delectable delights such as Spanish churros, Korean tornado fries, South Asian snacks, and Mexican tacos.
With over 20 funfair rides discounted to £1-£2, the festival proudly claimed the title of the UK's most affordable Eid event.
"The atmosphere was buzzing throughout both days, and it was heartwarming to witness countless families embracing the festivities," remarked Mohammed Tariq, Festival Manager.
He added, "Inspire FM is dedicated to serving our community, and we are delighted to have provided an affordable and inclusive platform for celebrating Eid."
In addition to the discounted rides, the festival offered free family entertainment, featuring spiritual singers, jugglers, and balloon modellers. Entry to the event was free of charge, ensuring accessibility for all members of the community.
Collaborating with local schools, Luton Foodbank, and The Chalk Hills Academy, Inspire FM demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility through the 'Every Child Smiles' project. As part of this initiative, 1,000 free ride tokens and Eid gifts were distributed to families facing financial hardship.
Salma Khan, Project Coordinator at Luton Foodbank, expressed gratitude for the initiative, stating, "Eid is a time for joy and togetherness, irrespective of financial constraints. Luton Foodbank is proud to have contributed to ensuring that every member of our community can partake in the Eid festivities."
The success of the Inspire Eid Festival was made possible through the generous support of headline sponsor Luton Rising, alongside main sponsors Barnfield College and the University of Bedfordshire.
Cath Gunn, Principal, Barnfield College said, "Being part of Inspire FM's Eid festival is a real privilege, it is a fantastic event for the people of Luton to come together in celebrating Eid. This festival beautifully showcases the rich culture and vibrancy of our town, and we are thrilled to have been a supporter."
A spokesperson for the University of Bedfordshire said, “The University of Bedfordshire is delighted to have been a supporter of this year's Inspire Eid al Fitr Celebrations. Throughout the event, we met current and prospective students, alumni, local businesses, and parents, all eager to discover the opportunities offered by their local university.”
