LUTON COMMUNITY HEROES CELEBRATED AT BIG IFTAR

Hundreds braved the weather last week for the annual Big Iftar to celebrate community heroes and share food.
Inspire FM presented the Making an Impact Awards to individuals and organisations for their commitment to making Luton a better place.
Imam Abdul Aziz Chishti, MBE, was given an award for his dedication to the local community for over 10 years.
Retired headteacher Daniel Connor was honoured for his outstanding contribution to the education of Lutonians.
Liz Stringer was celebrated for her contribution as Chair of Luton Foodbank who are marking their 10th year.
Heroes of Kilimanjaro, who trekked the mountain in aid of building a purpose built centre for disability charity FOBE, were awarded for their efforts and bravery.
Local charitable society Mary Seacole were given an award for supporting vulnerable people in the town.
Team Revolution which encourage communities to get active were honoured for their work.
Unsung heroes Dave Creaney of Luton Irish Forum, Karen Linley of Tesco Dunstable and Shagufta Anwar of Chaul End Nursery & Childrens Centre were presented awards for their dedication to the community.
Event organiser Mohammed Tariq of Inspire FM said: “It was wonderful seeing everyone come together and celebrate the achievements of local heroes.
“We are grateful to have amazing people in our town who make it a great place to call home.”
People from diverse communities attended the event which highlighted commonalities and shared food at the time of Iftar, when Muslims break their fast.
The event was sponsored by Atrumed Healthcare which provides the Emergency GP Clinic at the L&D Hospital.
Luton Council, Bedfordshire Police and Chaul End Nursery were key partners for the community event. The event was supported by Energise Holiday Camps, VolkerHighways, Crisis Aid, Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation and Connect4Causes.
Proceeds from the event went to Luton Foodbank to help tackle holiday hunger.
